Privacy policy

This policy covers the ZohaNur applications — ZohaNur, ZohaNur Quran, ZohaNur Hadith and ZohaNur MP3 — and this website.

The short version: ZohaNur has no user accounts, no analytics, and no advertising. Your worship data stays on your phone. Three features do reach the internet, and they are described plainly below.

What we do not do#

• We do not ask you to create an account, and we have no way to identify you.
• We do not collect analytics, usage statistics, or crash telemetry.
• We do not include advertising software or tracking libraries.
• We do not sell, rent, or share personal information with anyone, for any price.
• We do not build a profile of your religious practice. What you read, what you recite, when you pray, and what you record in the cycle tracker is not visible to us and never leaves your device.

What is stored on your device#

All of the following lives in your phone's private application storage. It is not transmitted anywhere, and it is removed when you uninstall the app.

• Your settings: calculation method, madhab, reciter, script, language, themes.
• Your last known location, saved so prayer times still work when GPS is unavailable.
• Reading position, bookmarks, reading habits and streaks.
• Tasbeeh and dhikr counts.
• Zakat calculations and sadaqah records you enter.
• Cycle tracker entries, if you use that feature.
• Downloaded recitation audio and any offline data you choose to keep.

Because there is no account and no backup server, this data cannot be recovered by us if you lose your phone or uninstall the app. That is the trade-off of storing nothing: we cannot lose your data, but we also cannot restore it.

What leaves your device#

There are exactly three situations in which ZohaNur contacts a server.

1. Finding your location#

Prayer times and the qibla require a location. ZohaNur tries, in parallel:

• Device location (GPS or network). Handled by Android. The coordinates are used on your device and saved there. They are not sent to us.
• Approximate location from your IP address, only as a fallback when device location is unavailable or denied. This contacts a third-party geolocation service, which necessarily sees your IP address. It receives nothing else — no identifier, no indication of what you are doing in the app.

You can refuse location permission entirely and set your city manually. Prayer times are then calculated fully offline, with no network contact at all.

2. Downloading recitation audio#

Recitation files are fetched from public Quran audio archives when you play or download a surah. Those servers see your IP address and which file you requested, as any web server would. Once downloaded, playback is entirely offline.

3. ZohaNur AI#

This is the one feature that sends your words to another company. When you send a message to the AI assistant, the text of that message is transmitted to a third-party AI provider in order to generate a reply.

• Only what you type is sent. Your location, prayer history, reading data and other app content are not attached.
• Those providers have their own privacy policies and may retain messages according to their own terms. We cannot make promises on their behalf.
• Do not put anything private, identifying or sensitive into the AI chat. It is not a confidential channel, and it should not be treated as one.
• The assistant can be avoided entirely. Every other feature in ZohaNur works without it.

Permissions#

Every one of these can be refused. Refusing a permission disables the feature that needs it and nothing else. Permissions explained in detail →

Children#

ZohaNur includes a section intended for children learning the Arabic alphabet. It collects nothing, contains no advertising, no external links, and no chat. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children.

This website#

zohanur.app serves static pages. It sets no cookies, runs no analytics, and loads no fonts, scripts or resources from third-party services — the typefaces are served from this domain for exactly that reason. The hosting provider keeps ordinary server logs, which include IP addresses, for security and abuse prevention.

Your requests#

Since we hold no personal data, there is generally nothing for us to retrieve or delete on request. To remove everything ZohaNur has stored about you, uninstall the app; that erases it.

If this policy changes in a way that affects what leaves your device, the change will be announced in the release notes and the date below will be updated. Material changes will also be shown inside the app.
